In a symbol of unity and freedom, motorcycles riders from Lane County, Oregon today welcomed a special flag that’s making it’s rounds all across the country.

Riders from all over gathered on Sunday at Doyle’s Harley-Davidson shop in South Eugene to catch a glimpse of a flag flown in a base in Afghanistan.  It’s now on a nationwide journey of 100 cities in 100 days. The flag is expected to travel some 14,000 miles throughout 48 states as part of the 2011 Patriot Tour.

While the event raises awareness for wounded veterans and helps financially support their families, it also has an emotional tie for many.

“It means a lot to me and all the veterans in this country. It’s a real heart jerking experience,” said Joe Augustine

Riders will take the flag from Eugene and ride up to Portland where it will then travel to cities in Washington.
